Windows XP SP2 Support

The alongside running of Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Outpost has caused lots of confusion among users. We recommend that you take the following steps to keep Outpost 2.1 run smoothly with SP2.

  1. Right click on My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Go to Advanced, press Settings buttons in the Performance section.
  3. Go to Data Execution Prevention and check if you have DEP turned on for all programs, not only system applications. If yes, then press “Add”, go to Program Files, open Outpost folder and move Outpost to the exclusion list.
  4. Restart your PC.

By doing this, you exclude Outpost from the list of applications that are partially blocked by DEP and thus prevent system dysfunctions

If you are using a 64-bit AMD Athlon processer, you might experience system instability problems after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2. In this case you need to fully switch DEP off, like that:

For example

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
should be changed to
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /execute

You can find the boot.ini system file in the root of disc C:\.

To modify it, please do the following:

  1. Go to Start - Run
  2. Run: attrib c:\boot.ini -h -r -s
  3. Then run: notepad c:\boot.ini

Please be advised that Windows Firewall should be disabled when you run Outpost. Please do the following:

  1. In Control Panel click Network Connections.
  2. Right click on the icon or name of your Internet Connection Supplier (ISP) in the large window. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on "Properties" in this menu.
  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab of the Properties panel. Disable the Internet Connection Firewall by clicking on the box next to 'Protect my computer and network....' to remove the check mark."

By doing this you prevent a possible system conflict between the firewalls.

If you still experience problems, please contact our support.
